Make-A-Wish is a non-profit tax exempt organization that that is dedicated to granting wishes to children between 2 1/2 -18 yrs of age that are dealing with life threatening medical conditions to enrich strength, hope and joy.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted 1500 wishes since 1985!

Kyle Malcott, a 13-year-old Sterling resident, who just completed 7th grade at Red Creek Central School recently found out that wishes do come true! Kyle was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor this past year and has been receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatments quite vigorously for the past several months. After all the exhausting treatments, Kyle received a gift that he will never forget! Kyle’s wish granters are Dave and Julie Eddy from Fulton.

Dave and Julie announced his wish would be granted at Dave-n-Busters at Destiny on June 29,2014 with a cake and some finger foods, and some free play time at D&B arcade with his sister, Kali, friends Tyler Scutt, Marissa Wallace and Makalia Hall.

Kyle along with his mom and dad, Scott and Lisa and his twin sister, Kali, left on Wednesday, July 23 in a stretch limousine bound for Syracuse airport provided by J&J Limousine service out of Auburn. Owner Joe Catalfano donates his services for many wishes granted by Make-A-Wish.

The family arrived at JFK and then were chauffered to Hampton Inn in Times Square North for 4 days, 3 nights.

Complimentary tickets were also provided to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and Empire State Building observation deck from the 86th floor. They also visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum on their trip along with lots of walking in Times Square and a horse and carriage ride around Central Park.

Friday, July 25 brought the real reason for the trip: GAME DAY at the Yankee Stadium! Another limo picked them up at the Hampton Inn at 2:30 p.m. along with Make-A-Wish Representative, Anne Driscoll, who joined on WISH DAY. Kyle received lots of gifts from the Yankees….a hat, a bat, a ball in which he got several autographs on, a replica of the 2000 World Series Ring, and several books. Additionally, he got a behind the scenes tour of the stadium, a complimentary buffet that included every food imaginable on it, desserts and a candy bar! Kyle and his family were able to watch batting practice and then Kyle and his Dad were allowed to sit in the Yankee’s dugout. The first player to come and sit by Kyle was Derek Jeter! His favorite!!! Then Joe Girardi, David Robertson, Chase Headley, Brett Gardner, Jeff Francis and Zelous Wheeler all came over and sat by Kyle and Scott for a picture and talked to them! He also got Paul O’Neil’s signature who was there that day.

Complimentary tickets in the 14th row for our family and Anne. They beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 that night. Kyle’s name came across the screen in the middle of the 3rd inning, where it was written “Welcoming KYLE MALCOTT of Sterling, NY”. Then a limo ride back to hotel.

By Saturday, after a whirlwhind of events, they were all exhausted. Another complimentary ride back to JFK airport to fly home. When Kyle and his family arrived in Syracuse at 7 p.m. they were greeted by his wish granters, Dave and Julie, and to their surprise, another ride home from J&J Limo service which was in a Red Trolley.

The family had an amazing time and would like to thank Make-A-Wish of CNY for giving them a well needed break from the hospital scene. The renewed sense of energy and spirit will surely help Kyle stay positive and encouraged during his battle.

Kyle is about to start round 4 of 6 and is doing very well, the tumor is shrinking the way they were hoping it would!
